I am the eldest of nine children born to Joe and Monica Machacek. I attended St. Ludmila Academy, and graduated from St. Paul High School in 1966. I married Mary a Houston native, in 1968 and we started our family of three sons and three daughters. We lived in Point Comfort till 1975 and then moved to our home in Shiner in the country, our present residence. After working for Alcoa in Point Comfort for thirty years, I took an early retirement and have since worked at Kaspar Wire Works and the Yoakum Community Hospital until January of 2008 when I accepted the position of business manager for the parish.
If asked why I became a deacon, I reply to serve others. Although trying I believe the academic studies were superb. The spiritual direction helped my conviction in the Catholic Faith. I know that my studies and practical exercises are far from over, but I will accept them as I have my former studies.
My blessing is abundant and my wife Mary tops the list, after the merciful goodness of our Triune God. My children have given me ten wonderful grandchildren with the eleventh soon to arrive. Being a part of this great parish and seeing so many organizations and their members generously giving time, talents and making sacrifices to sustain the message of God's kingdom both in heaven and here on earth fills me with enthusiasm to join them. I have never seen a more vibrant and inclusive parish than Saint Cyril and Methodius and I am most pleased to be a servant in it.
